Batavia Missionaries Serve in Appalachia in June 2024
Batavia ASP, a group of youth and adult volunteers from around Batavia partnering with Appalachia Service Project, returned from Dickenson County, Virginia, after working from June 9 to 15 to eradicate substandard housing.
Special Uplift Project
After three days of work on our sites, and much discussion, Batavia ASP teams agreed to provide as much financial support as possible for ASP’s efforts at one home. These teams have been working together all week to get a new roof started for their homeowners, and have made incredible progress, but there is a long way to go!
The homeowners both work incredibly hard, are raising two kids and have other adult family members who rely on them for daily care. The dad works for a local business that is directly a part of ASP’s work in Dickenson County, and will put in countless hours this summer helping to get ASP’s work done on many other homes. Despite their hard work, this family has not been able to afford necessary repairs on their own home, and damages continue to build as the roof leaks, dry wall and insulation get wet, walls are damaged, and personal belongings get ruined.
The ASP summer staff took a giant leap of faith in committing to a new roof for this family.
